Story of the Dazzle
Debi has spent over two decades as a dentist, gently easing the worries of patients who come in with aches, pains and understandable fears. In medicine, there’s a common phrase used to help calm those fears: “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” It’s a way of saying, “Let’s look at the most likely explanation before jumping to something rare.”
She’s said it so many times over the years, never imagining that one day, when she heard hoofbeats, it would actually be zebras.
Thymic Neuroendocrine (TNET) cancer is incredibly rare in itself, but her specific diagnosis is even more uncommon. Fittingly, the awareness ribbon for Neuroendocrine cancers is a zebra-striped ribbon and the thymic cancer colors are lavender and orange. Debi is our one-of-a-kind lavender zebra.
In the wild, a herd of zebras is called a dazzle. They move together, protect each other, and find strength in their unity.
We are Debi’s Dazzle.
We’re here to surround her with love, support and stability as she faces this journey. It won’t be easy, but we’ll walk beside her every step of the way. And together, we’ll find the brighter light waiting on the other side.
